How do I become a member?
1) Fill out MAG's Membership Application Form
2) As soon as your application and dues are received, MAG processes your membership through our Internal Credentialing Process. Once this is completed (usually within three days) and you have been approved as a member, you will receive your New Member Packet containing your membership card, certificate of membership and all the information you need to become active in organized medicine.
What does it cost to join MAG?
Dues for first and second-year members are $275 per year. Third and subsequent year members pay $500 per year.
How does MAG interact with county medical societies?
County medical societies provide excellent benefits such as referral services, special events and educational meetings which can help build your practice and your professional contacts. Your county medical society is based on your county of predominant practice. It is no longer a requirement for a member to join both MAG and a county society; however, MAG encourages members to get involved in organized medicine locally by joining their county medical society.
If I join MAG, must I also join the AMA?
No, MAG and the AMA do not have unified membership; however, MAG encourages membership in the AMA.
Is MAG the same as MAG Mutual?
No. The Medical Association of Georgia is a professional membership organization that advocates for the rights of physicians and their patients. MAG Mutual is the largest medical professional liability insurer in Georgia. MAG does not own MAG Mutual; however, we fully endorse and work closely with the company. How do I become licensed in Georgia?

Can a physician hold simultaneous dual membership in two state medical associations?
A physician from outside the state of Georgia may join MAG as long as they have a current Georgia medical license and meet the basic rules of membership as stated in the bylaws. The bylaws state that an Active Member must hold a medical degree and A) be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Georgia; or B) be employed as an intern, resident or fellow in a hospital or institution whose internship, residency or fellowship program is approved by the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners of Georgia or any predecessor or successor body authorized to license Doctor of Medicine; or C) be employed as a commissioned medical officer in any of the armed forces of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service, Veterans Administration of Indian Service.
I just moved from another state and was a member of that state's medical association. Do I need to pay dues to join MAG?
No, MAG offers reciprocity with other state associations. As long as your dues were paid to the other state, you may become a member of MAG, the remainder of the calendar year gratis.
Does MAG offer physician referrals?
MAG's Web site contains a 'Find a physician' feature where anyone can look up MAG members by specialty and location.
How do I become more active in MAG?
MAG has approximately 30 committees, covering many topics. Committees are a vital component of MAG. They study important issues and make recommendations to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and House of Delegates. Click here to learn more about specific committees. Also, through MAG's House of Delegates, voting delegates from each component society are elected to vote on issues affecting the business and production of the Association for the next year. Similarly, MAG's AMA Delegation represents Georgia physicians at the national level.
