MAG Sues Managed Care
In March 2001, the Medical Association of Georgia was the first state medical society to bring a class action lawsuit against the insurance industry alleging improper payment practices. MAG’s lawsuit and subsequent lawsuits brought by other state medical societies, including Texas Medical Association and California Medical Association, were combined in a massive multi-state litigation alleging unfair business tactics on the part of health care insurers that are hindering the physicians' ability to provide quality care to their patients. A majority of the managed care companies have settled their claims.
