Charge
Medical Practice Committee: Established to provide input in all areas of the practice of medicine and monitor any state or federal agency that may have direct involvement in those areas, including but not limiting to, Public Health and Emergency Medical Services. The Committee will keep up-to-date on all issues of public health and emergency medicine and update MAG members when necessary. The Committee will address the relationship between members of MAG and hospital staffs and provide a forum for discussion of mutual problems and to suggest ways for MAG to address the problems and provide information to hospital staffs when necessary.

08.03.07 MAG to Co-Sponsor 'Pandemic Influenza Planning Kit for Outpatient Providers'
At the July Board meeting, John S. Harvey, M.D., presented an overview of the Division of Public Health's 'Pandemic Influenza Planning Kit for Outpatient Providers.' MAG will co-sponsor and assist Public Health in distributing the kit to physicians statewide.
As part of the Division of Public Health's mission, the South Metro Atlanta Public Health Districts will be conducting a seminar on pandemic influenza for the medical community. The seminar for medical providers serving the South Atlanta Metropolitan area is entitled 'The Influenza Pandemic: Are We Prepared?' It will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, at the Harry S. Downs Continuing Education Center at Clayton State University. It is open to doctors, nurses, office managers and ICPs.
03.20.07 Improving America's Hospitals: A Report on Quality and Safety
How America's accredited hospitals performed against evidence-based quality measures relating to the care of heart attacks, heart failure and pneumonia, and to surgical infection prevention during 2005. This report also presents hospital performance in complying with the requirements of The Joint Commission 2005 National Patient Safety Goals. These performance results in particular show both where improvements have been made and where future opportunities for improvement still lie.
Improving America's Hospitals: A Report on Quality and Safety also shows, however, that the effectiveness with which hospitals carry out safe practices and provide patients proven treatments for common clinical conditions varies by state.

03.16.07 MAG's Position on Georgia's Pandemic Influenza Response Plan
On July 29, 2006, the MAG Board of Directors considered Resolution 110AB-05, Nursing Opposition to Influenza Vaccine Administered in Non-Health Facilities, and approved endorsing the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health’s Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Standard Operating Plan, (Plan) pending the final recommendations of the Medical Practice Committee. The MAG Medical Practice Committee appointed a subcommittee to review the Plan who offered their findings at the recent Medical Practice Committee meeting on January 26, 2007.
The Medical Association of Georgia Medical Practice Committee believes the Board of Directors should endorse the Georgia Division of Public Health’s Georgia Pandemic Influenza Preparedness plan. This report is a summary of the findings of the Committee and our recommendation for endorsement of the Georgia Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Standard Operating Plan with the additional caveats as stated.
