AMA: Proposed AHCA revisions won’t address shortcomings

The American Medical Association (AMA) has sent a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives’ leadership to emphasize that the “proposed revisions to H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act (AHCA), will not address the shortcomings of the original legislation, so the AMA remains opposed to its passage.”

AMA says that, “In particular, [it is concerned] that the MacArthur amendment released earlier this week would allow health status underwriting that could effectively make coverage unaffordable to people with preexisting conditions.”

And AMA stresses that it will “continue to urge Congress to engage in a bipartisan, bicameral dialogue with stakeholders to develop policies that enhance coverage, choice, and availability.”
