The Medical Association of Georgia’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will participate in a natural disaster response exercise that will take place at multiple sites in 31 counties in the state on March 23-31. The ‘Vigilant Guard’ exercise is being co-hosted by the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the Georgia Department of Defense. It is part of a larger event that is being sponsored by the U.S. Northern Command that will involve 9,000 personnel in seven states. The purpose of the exercise is to “simulate a real-world natural disaster in order to improve cooperation in preparing for emergencies and catastrophic events.”
