‘Top Docs’ show on unique medical finance solution now online
A recording of a recent special, sponsored edition of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs Radio’ show that addressed CopernicusMD – a unique medical finance solution – is now available online.
The show featured CopernicusMD executive managing director Don O’Neill.
“After 25 years as a board-certified neurosurgeon, I knew there had to be a better way to manage practice cash flow, patient billing notifications, carrier approvals, and collections,” says CopernicusMD founder and chair Ellen Shaver, M.D., who was not able to be on the show. She adds that, “As the cost of medical procedures and insurance-related expenses continues to rise, patients are being expected to pay a larger sum of money at the time of the procedure.”
According to O’Neill, more than 60 percent of employed Americans are unprepared for an out-of-pocket expense of $5,000 or more.
He explains that, “CopernicusMD queries a patient’s ICD-10 codes against their insurance to determine how much they will be responsible to pay out-of-pocket. We offer qualifying patients the option of financing their medical expenses.”
And O’Neill says that, “CopernicusMD, and not practice staff, takes on the responsibility of managing the billing and collection of those payments. We pre-qualify patients for a loan if they need one, and we match patients with lenders.”
Finally, Dr. Shaver stresses that, “CopernicusMD is not a collections agency – it is a finance solution.”
