House of Delegates

COVID Vaccination Required

Given the crucial business and health policy development work that is scheduled to take place, we have decided to proceed with the Medical Association of Georgia’s Board of Directors and House of Delegates meetings on Jekyll Island on October 22-24.

Based on the feedback that we have received from MAG members – and to take every reasonable and responsible precaution – we have also decided that everyone who attends any of the meetings or events on Jekyll Island in October must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

This requirement applies to every physician, guest, and MAG staff.

A negative COVID-19 test result is no longer an option to attend the events on Jekyll Island.

Please note that you should receive your first dose of the Pfizer vaccine no later than September 17 (and the second dose three weeks later), or the first dose of the Moderna vaccine no later than September 10 (and the second dose four weeks later), or a single dose of the J&J vaccine by October 8 to be fully vaccinated (i.e., achieve the vaccine’s full benefit).

We will also require the use of social distancing and face coverings to the extent it is practical during the meetings and events, and MAG staff will continue to work with the meeting venues to put additional safeguards into place – including eliminating events that aren’t deemed essential (or that can be conducted on a virtual basis in advance) and moving meals outdoors or into open-air settings.

If you or any members of your family will not be able to attend the HOD meeting because of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement, please click here to complete a simple form and MAG staff will cancel your room and/or meal reservations. If you still plan on attending the meeting, you do not need to complete this form or take any other action.

We will continue to monitor the COVID metrics in the state, and we will continue to consult with infectious disease specialists to ensure that we are making the best and most responsible decisions. If we get to a point where we feel that we cannot conduct a safe meeting, we will adjust our plans accordingly.

Finally, we encourage you to consult with your primary care physician to determine if you should get a COVID-19 booster shot before our meetings in October (assuming it is available).

If you have not already done so, you can click here to register for the HOD meeting.

Please contact Tom Kornegay at tkornegay@mag.org with any questions.

Our sincere thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
