Organizational Structure

House of Delegates

The House of Delegates (HOD) is the primary legislative and policy-making body of the association. The HOD generally meets during MAG's annual meeting – unless it is convened in special session for extraordinary business. The HOD consists of representatives who are selected by county medical societies and specialty societies that meet minimum membership requirements, as well as the International Medical Graduate Section, the Medical Student Section, the Resident Physician and Fellows Section, and the Young Physicians Section.

Board of Directors

Between the meetings of the House of Delegates, the Board of Directors (BOD) decides the association's matters. The BOD is comprised of directors who are elected by district or county medical societies and the president, the president-elect, the first vice president, the second vice president, the secretary, the treasurer; the immediate past president (who serves as a full member of the Board of Directors for three years), the speaker of the HOD; the vice speaker of the HOD; and the chairman of the Council on Legislation.

Executive Committee

Between the meetings of the BOD and the HOD, the Executive Committee decides the association's matters. Executive Committee decisions are presented at the next meeting of the BOD to be approved, rejected or modified. The Executive Committee is a committee of the BOD. The Executive Committee is composed of the president, the president-elect, the immediate past president, the first vice president, the second vice president, the secretary, the treasurer, the chairman of the BOD, the vice chairman of the BOD, the speaker of the HOD and the vice speaker of the HOD, the chairman of the Georgia American Medical Association delegation, and the chairman of the Council on Legislation. The president serves as the chairman of the Executive Committee, and the president-elect serves as the vice chairman of the Executive Committee.

President

Between meetings of the Executive Committee, the president or the president’s duly appointed representative decides the association's matters, and the president's decisions are presented at the next meeting of the Executive Committee to be approved, rejected or modified.

Executive Director

The executive director is the chief executive officer of the association. The executive director is responsible for the overall management and direction of MAG's staff activities. They are also responsible for assuring that the mandates of the HOD, BOD and Executive Committee are carried out and that any organizational objectives and members’ needs are identified and met. The executive director is responsible for keeping the officers and BOD informed on matters affecting MAG's members.
