Lawmakers to consider measure to avoid government shutdown
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) has introduced the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2018 (H.J. Res. 125), legislation that would 1) extend federal government funding through February 16, 2018 and 2) extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years and 3) extend certain health care tax provisions, including the Affordable Care Act’s medical device excise tax, excise tax on employer-sponsored health insurance coverage, and annual fee on health insurance providers. This measure notwithstanding, the federal government would run out of funding on January 19.
