CMS releases info on Hospice Benefit Component of VBID Model
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services distributed the following announcement…
Beginning on January 1, 2021, select Medicare Advantage Organizations (MAOs) in parts of 13 states and Puerto Rico are including the Medicare hospice benefit in their benefits package as part of a CMS Innovation Center model, called the Hospice Benefit Component of the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model.
There is a Medicare Advantage plan participating in the model in 22 counties in Georgia for CY 2021.
Under the model, the participating MAOs are responsible for coverage and payment of all services covered by original Medicare, including hospice. For beneficiaries enrolled in a participating Medicare Advantage plan, this model will change how hospice notices are submitted and claims are paid for hospice elections that begin on or after January 1, 2021.
Each hospice provider that has a service area that overlaps with a participating Medicare Advantage plan’s service area has received a letter with state-specific information and more details about the Model.
