Expert M.D. addresses plant-based diets on new ‘Top Docs’ show

The latest edition of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs’ show addresses the health benefits associated with plant-based diets – and it features Neil Cooper, M.D., an attending radiologist with Kaiser Permanente (KP) of Georgia and the immediate past chief of diagnostic imaging at KP.  

Dr. Cooper discusses…

 His personal transition to a plant-based diet
– How a plant-based diet differs from a vegan or vegetarian diet
– The heart health and other benefits associated with a plant-based diet
– How increased fiber intake can improve one’s health  
– Good sources of protein for people who follow a plant-based diet
– Whether the foodservice culture at hospitals is changing

– What physicians and others can do to effect change 

Before he joined KP, Dr. Cooper practiced interventional radiology with Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta for more than 20 years. He helped launch the annual ’21-Day Plant Power Challenge’ at KP. Dr. Cooper serves on the scientific advisory boards for several organizations, including the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine – which promotes plant-based nutrition for health. He recently gave a presentation to the scientific advisory panel that is developing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s dietary guidelines for 2020. Dr. Cooper is board certified by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, and he is a certified personal trainer. 

Between downloads and live listeners, ‘Top Docs’ – which won an American Association of Medical Society Executives Profiles of Excellence Award  and a Health Information Resource Center Digital Health Awards award in 2019 – has now reached more than 700,000 listeners and viewers, which includes people in all 50 states and more than 80 countries.

‘Top Docs’ is supported with a grant from Alliant Health Solutions in memory of Tom Williams, its former CEO.
