New ‘Top Docs’ addresses Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy

The latest edition of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs’ show addresses the MAG Foundation’s Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy (GPLA) and its ‘Mission Advancement’ fundraising campaign – and it features Joy Maxey, M.D., F.A.A.P., one of the GPLA founders and a member of the GPLA Steering Committee, and Michelle Zeanah, M.D., F.A.A.P., a GPLA Steering Committee vice chair and a GPLA graduate.

They discuss…

– GPLA’s mission and goals
– What kinds of issues and skill sets GPLA addresses
– How the GPLA nomination and selection process works
– What kinds of leaders the GPLA has produced
– How GPLA promotes diversity
– The Physicians Foundation’s significant contributions to the GPLA
– Why it is imperative to develop physician leaders
– GPLA’s ‘Mission Advancement’ fundraising campaign
– Why GPLA alumni and other physicians should support GPLA

Dr. Maxey served as MAG’s president in 2000-2001, and she is MAG’s representative on The Physicians Foundation’s Board of Directors. The board-certified pediatrician is the president and owner of the Atlanta Children’s Clinical Center, P.C. Dr. Maxey graduated from the Medical College of Georgia, and she completed her residency at the Emory University Affiliated Hospitals.

Dr. Zeanah has focused on behavioral pediatrics since 2016, and she started a non-profit to “provide needed services not covered by insurance or Medicaid to compliment her multidisciplinary practice.” She attended the Mercer University School of Medicine, and she completed her residency in general pediatrics at the University of Florida Shands Hospital and Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville.

It is worth noting that The Physicians Foundation has supported the GPLA with grants totaling nearly $400,000.
